Counselors check to make sure you are meeting all your graduation requirements It is your responsibility to make sure you meet all the requirements for your major.
Teachers remind you of your incomplete work. Professors may not remind you of incomplete work.
You have 4 to 6 classes every day for 45 to 120 minutes. You may only meet each class once a week for 3 hours.
Counselors track you down to get registered for classes. You create your own schedule and make appointments to meet with an advisor.
Classes have no more than 30 students. There can be more than 100 students in a class.
You may have done as little as 2-3 hours of home work all week. You are expected to study for 3-4 hours a night.
You do not need to take notes in many classes. Taking careful notes and reviewing them is crucial to success.
You do some outside reading that is discussed in class and analyzed. You are responsible for a lot of outside reading that may never be discussed but could show up on an exam.
Your grade is made up of many assignments and tests given on a weekly basis. Your grade may be based on one or two papers and/or exams.
You are able to talk to teachers before, after and during class. Professors expect you to meet with them during their scheduled office hours.
Teachers have been trained to use a variety of methods to teach a lesson. Professors have been trained as experts in their particular areas of research and not in how to teach.
Teachers write information on the board for your notes. Professors may lecture without having any notes on the board-and you must write everything down.
Teachers take attendance and discipline you if you cut class. Professors may not take attendance but they may notice that you are not there.
Teachers will give you the work you missed if you are absent. It is your responsibility to get the notes or other class work from a fellow student.
Teachers test often and may offer make-up tests if your grade was failing. Professors usually test once or twice a semester and seldom allow a make-up test.
Teachers provide grades for you each quarter. Professors give you a grade at the end of the semester.
Teachers often review before a test. Professors generally do not review for tests
