FAFSA Tip! Money for financial aid is given out on a first-come, first serve basis. The earlier you fill out the form, the better. Your colleges may say you have until March, but by then all the money will be gone.

FOLLOW THESE FAFSA STEPS

  1. Go to the FAFSA website to get a pin number by December 1st.
  2. On January 1st, go online and fill out the FAFSA Form.
  3. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR TAXES DONE!
  4. Click on the Captain for more!

CSS PROFILE

Some colleges require the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA form.

  • The questions on the Profile ask for information not required by the FAFSA and offer families opportunity to present a clearer picture of their financial situation. For example, they ask about mortgages, debts, etc. which are not included with the FAFSA.
  • THE PROFILE IS A GOOD THING TO COMPLETE. It will give colleges a clearer picture of a family’s expenses and their ability to pay for college.
  • To see a list of colleges that require the Profile, click here.
  • There is a $25 fee for the Profile and a report to one college. It is $16 for each additional report sent to a college. These fees might be waived if you are eligible for government programs like food stamps, unemployment, etc.
