Get Ready to Succeed >> Prior Learning
Have you been doing college-level work as part of your job? For example, doing a lot of math, statistics, or writing? You may be able to get college credit for the work. Contact the college where you are thinking about applying to see if you can get credit. (For example: USM’s Prior Learning Office at http://usm.maine.edu/pla/)
You can also get credit for Advanced Placement courses, take College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, DANTES standardized exams (DSST - Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support) which is now available to all nontraditional students not just military, and Excelsior College placement tests. You might also receive credit for a portfolio demonstrating your learning or for certificates you have earned through work or earlier college enrollments.
