COLLEGE for ME

Apply to College >> The ESSAY

One of the single most important parts of the application is your essay. It tells the Admissions office who you are, and reveals parts of your character that could not be found otherwise.

Some suggestions:

  • Is there a point in your life when your previous way of thinking or acting was suddenly reversed? For example, perhaps you got to know someone from a different background who changed what you used to believe. A turning point can be a powerful theme.
  • Are you particularly interested in a specific major/career? Can you describe what got you interested in that subject?
  • Have you had an unusual background? Moved a lot? Faced a number of challenges? Talk about that.
  • Do you have a part-time job? Have you grown and matured as you have worked? (Admissions officers are often the first in their family to attend college and LOVE teens who have part-time jobs!)
